Daytime nesting is very rare for this endangered species. The eggs were transported by the DNRA up the beach, away from the waterline.
This beach has an ever shifting coastline because of the direction it faces and many times large sections of sand are washed away overnight with a good storm.
Karl Alexander is known in the Caribbean as a nature/adventure/educational videographer / director and was the second person called to the scene after the Department of Natural Resources at the request of the Vieques Conservation and Historical Trust chief field investigator. He crossed the island with his gear by bike, mini truck and off road pickup in less than 30 minutes to one of the more difficult to reach beaches on Vieques.
